Early Years Yoga

These are best delivered weekly as part of the EYFS or K1 programme.

Yoga in early education covers literacy and numeracy. It builds gross motors skills to improve spatial awareness and balance as well as fine motor skills such as the  muscles in the hands in preparation for writing and focuses.

Children enjoy bringing stories to life with yoga moves and learn to use gentle touch and find stillness in their bodies through mini- meditations.

These classes are great for staff to join in with and learn a few basic techniques that can be practiced with their students throughout the week too.

Yoga in PE

Yoga as part of the PE curriculum helps supports the following aims within the national curriculum for KS1 and KS2;

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

  • Lead healthy, active lives.

Yoga classes can introduce students to new ways of moving and breathing and consequently help reduce stress and anxiety for students.  Through meditations and positive affirmations, yoga can also support positive body image from an early age and lead students finding new strengths and friendships withing their school life.

Yoga After-school Club

Yoga after school club will introduce pupils to a fun and active approach to yoga.

Classes will include individual poses, partner poses, mini meditations and often follow themes.

Through the use of music and props, pupils will be encouraged to engage in mindful activities that help them relate their feelings and emotions to what is happening in their school and home life. Students are given opportunities to share but this is not an expectation.
